GRAHAM supply chain learners celebrating NVQ completion at Brewery Gardens in Manchester

A group of construction workers in GRAHAM’s supply chain are celebrating the successful completion of their NVQ qualifications after taking part in a dedicated Skills Solutions Group upskilling programme.

The first cohort completed their qualifications following SSG’s Skills Drop-In Centre at the Brewery Gardens development in Manchester for Latimer by Clarion Housing Group.

The achievement demonstrates what can happen when workforce development is brought directly to the people who need it, helping experienced workers gain recognised qualifications while supporting contractors to strengthen competence throughout their supply chains.

Taking Skills Development Directly to Site

For people already working in construction, accessing qualifications needs to fit around the realities of working life.

The Skills Drop-In Centre provided an opportunity to support GRAHAM’s supply chain learners through their NVQ journey in connection with the project, helping make workforce development more accessible to those already working within the industry.

Rather than relying on traditional classroom-based learning, construction NVQs assess an individual’s occupational competence against the requirements of their qualification.

This approach allows experienced workers to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they use within their roles while continuing their careers in construction.

Investing in Supply Chain Competence

For GRAHAM, the programme represents more than the completion of individual qualifications.

By creating an accessible route to qualifications for people already working within its supply chain, GRAHAM has enabled experienced workers to gain formal recognition for the skills they use on site.

It also demonstrates a proactive approach to competence: identifying opportunities to develop people rather than waiting for qualification requirements to become a barrier.

For Skills Solutions Group, this is an important part of effective social value through skills development, creating tangible opportunities for people to gain recognised qualifications and progress within the industry.

Celebrating the First Cohort

The most important outcome is the achievement of the learners themselves.

Completing an NVQ requires candidates to demonstrate their occupational competence against recognised standards, and the successful completion of the first cohort marks the end of an important journey for everyone involved.

Skills Solutions Group congratulates every learner who achieved their qualification and thanks GRAHAM Group, Louise Seddon and the wider team for their commitment to developing their supply chain.

SSG is proud to continue supporting GRAHAM as an upskilling partner and looks forward to seeing more workers benefit from opportunities to recognise and develop their skills.

Organisations looking to explore workplace NVQ assessment or workforce upskilling can contact Skills Solutions Group to discuss their requirements.
